QUINCE

Quince  is a fruit that belongs to the rose family, closely related to apples and pears. It has a distinctive, rough, yellow skin when ripe and is typically pear-shaped, though it can also have a rounder appearance depending on the variety. The flesh of a quince is hard, astringent, and tart when raw, making it inedible unless cooked. However, once cooked, quince becomes tender and transforms into a fragrant, sweet, and flavorful fruit.

Quince is often used in jams, jellies, sauces, and baked goods, as its high pectin content makes it perfect for preserving. It is also used in savory dishes, paired with meats, or made into quince paste (known as membrillo in Spain), which is commonly served with cheese. In addition to its culinary uses, quince is rich in dietary fiber, vitamin C, and antioxidants.
